On Thursday, November 9, Rebuilding Together's Serving Those Who Serve program arrived bright and early at the home Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, James Miner. More than 30 volunteers were onsite to help modify and repair Mr. Miner's home to accommodate his disabilities. He was severely injured when he fell 30 feet from atop a shipping container during a sandstorm in June 2003.
Mr. Miner, a storekeeper first class in the U.S. Navy Reserves, serving as senior "Seabee" in a fortified supply compound at the Iraq border, was responsible for conducting the transfer of sensitive communications equipment returned from in and around Baghdad. He conducted tactical ground missions in a theater of combat operations and was assigned to U.S. Naval Construction Force Unit, attached to 1st Marine Expeditionary Forces that frequented unstable towns and wavering villages throughout the country of Iraq. Mr. Miner is unique because he is one of the few veterans to have served in three wars; Vietnam, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Read more about Miner project
